Stand Up for Jobs Weekend of Action

Scheduled for April 3, 2011 2:00PM

This event is more important than ever!!!!!  Please consider joining us next weekend.  All across Ohio, President Obama’s Organizing for America (OFA) will be holding events, “Stand Up For Jobs Weekend of Action.”   We are in a critical time as policies are being proposed at both the state and federal level that threaten our future.  In Ohio, collective bargaining rights ended with the House passing SB 5, and voting rights are under attack in House Bill 159 which was recently rushed through the Ohio House.  At the state and federal level, budget legislation is being proposed that will drastically cut many  programs while important available revenue sources are not tapped or, even more appalling, discontinued.    Just one of numerous examples is that the U.S. House passed a 2011 Continuing Budget Resolution which cuts a total of 61 billion, including  1.3 billion from Community Health Centers which serve 11 million people, 1.1 billion from Head Start, and 1.3 billion from Social Security, while just last December, a comparable amount of revenue was discontinued, as 70 billion annually was lost through  renewal of Bush tax cuts for those earning more than $250,000.

On April 2 and 3 we need canvassers and drivers so that we can knock on doors of voters  identified as likely to support our efforts.  We will be providing literature on legislation and asking voters to contact government representatives to protect our future.  In addition, it is likely that the anti-collective bargaining bill, SB 5, will soon pass the Ohio legislature and so our Weekend of Action efforts will include collecting names of those willing to sign upcoming petitions needed to place Senate Bill 5 on a statewide ballot.  And, of course, door knock efforts always provide opportunities to update our voter lists and promote voter registration.

So please join us in Xenia on Sunday, April 3, from 2:00 to 4:30 PM at 87 East Main Street (Greene County Dem Party HQ).  If you cannot make that, please consider joining efforts in Montgomery County on Saturday or Sunday, April 2 or 3, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at 131 S. Wilkinson Street (Montgomery County Dem Party HQ)   Please RSVP if at all possible so that we can plan accordingly.  We will provide all materials and a half hour training.

RSVP for Sunday in Xenia:  to Lynn at, 657-0426 or online at  Please include your name and contact information (phone and/or email).   Our highest priority is door knock canvassers, but we also need drivers with cars and you are volunteering as a drive, please indicate that in your RSVP.

RSVP for Saturday in Dayton:  online at (Saturay) or (Sunday).   Please include your name and contact info.

If you cannot canvas or drive, but would like to help by donating drinks or snacks or in some other way, please let me know.

If not you, who?  If not now, when?  (I know that’s a little overused, but it’s the truth!)
